Location:
The Jewel is near Belcher Mine on state road 595
in Hudson (just south of the Sun West Mine). The dive site is located near the
peninsula, just right of the center point in the photograph. In Hudson, take New
York Ave (the old location for SCUBA West), west and then take a right where it
intersects Old Dixie Highway. The canal is about 2.7 miles north fom this
intersection.
Description:
Large boulders and mounds of dirst has block the usual
access since yokels seem to like the area to dump trash and torch stolen cars.
You can try to park near the fenced in area off Old Dixie Highway near the
canal, but be sure to lock your vehicle. Last time diving here members of the
party had a cooler, set of keys, and even a camera and housing (even when hidden
near the dive site) stolen. This would be a good spot for training since the
room is fairly open with easy access to the surface. this would be a good site
for training, however the depths can go pretty far down.
